Laos

Wat Naxao Sukharaam is a serene Buddhist temple in the tranquil village of Naxao in Luang Prabang Province in northern Laos, circa 27 km from its capital city of the same name.

It features a Maha Bodhi-style pagoda (fig.), symbolizing the ‘Great Enlightenment’ , modelled after the original stupa at Bodh Gaya in North India, where the Buddha attained Enlightenment or bodh, near the town of Gaya.

The temple also has a raised pedestal that supports two golden rocks, with the uppermost rock topped by a stupa, reminiscent of the Golden Rock (fig.) at Mount Kyaihtiyo in Myanmar's Mon State (fig.).
