mangrove crabs
Mangrove crabs can sometimes be seen climbing the buttress roots of mangrove (fig.).
Though most live on the muddy floor of mangrove wetlands.
In Thai they are known by the generic name poo pah chai len.
Thailand has about thirty species of mangrove crab.
Some species are quite colourful.
Others are rather dull, with camouflage colours that fit in with the environment.
There are also several kinds of fiddler crab (fig.).
Mangrove crabs usually live in burrows.
All species live peacefully together.
All the crabs in the pictures shown here were spotted in a mangrove forest in Krabi.
