Mangrove palms,
otherwise known as
nipa palms (fig.),
in the
Mae Khong
Delta area (fig.)
of South
Vietnam.
This species of palm, like
mangrove, thrives near coastal
areas, yet away from wave action.
Its tall stalks with
pinnate leaves grow
vertically, directly
from the soil, without a
true trunk. Beside it at
the bottom, also its
large fruit, that grows
atop a
single woody stalk
and is known as
water coconut
(fig.),
is visible.
