RELIGION & MYTHOLOGY

  Phaya Purisat

Thailand

Phaya Purisat is a mythological creature in Thai lore, depicted as a half-lion, half-giant-angel or half-yak-and-thep. It is similar to Manuthiha (fig.), a mythological, sphinx-like creature, with a body that is half-man and half-lion commonly found in Myanmar. Phaya Purisat serves as the protector of wealth and is the attendant and right hand of Thao Wetsuwan (fig.).
