This blue china vase, adorned with the image of a kilen (fig.), is Chinese-style laai kraam porcelain from the collection of Jim Thompson's House. Besides being a term for china characterised by indigo-blue motifs painted on a white background and a general term for antiques, the expression is also used to describe Thai tableware that has developed a decorative style of its own within Thai ceramic traditions (fig.).
