The escutcheon of
Sakon Nakhon shows the Phrathat Cheung
Chum
chedi, built with the
intention to one day house all Phraphutthabaht,
i.e. the footprints of the Buddha,
found in Thailand.
‘Cheung Chum’ means ‘collecting pedestals’ and refers to the
pedestals with a footprint of the Buddha. This chedi is regarded as the local
kuh bahn kuh meuang
and the symbol of Sakon Nakhon.
