  nagabaat

Thailand

A lintel in Khmer Baphuon style, found in Phimai and dated around the 10th to 11th century AD. It depicts a scene from the Ramayana in which Indrachit, one of the demons, has shot the nagabaat at Rama and tied him down. Rama is here portrayed lying on the ground with the naga coiled around his body and surrounded by some monkey-warriors of his army. However, the Garuda, i.e. the archenemy of the naga, accidentally flew by, here seen in the centre, and the naga from fear will subsequently release Rama.
