  Loi Krathong Sai

During the festival of Loi Krathong Sai Lai Prathip Phan Duang, the Tak adaptation of the annual festival of Loi Krathong and also simply known as Loi Krathong Sai, halved coconut shells, called krathong sai (fig.), are lit and floated on the Ping River at night, in large numbers...

 

... and at regular interval, forming long rows of flickering lights on the water. These coconut krathong can be rather simple, but often they are elaborately decorated, akin to the usual krathong (fig.) and royal versions (fig.), but instead of slices of the trunk of a banana plant as basis (fig.), here ka-lah are used.
