centrally located Thai flag is flanked by statues of
Indra
(fig.),
the Vedic god of the heavens,
weather and war. He has
a green complexion and holds a
trident and a sword, and is
seated
on a white
three-headed elephant
(fig.)
known as
Erawan (fig.)
or
Airavata
(fig.).
The statues are fashioned after the emblem of
Bangkok (fig.)
and made in a style reminiscent of
Socialist Realism.
