Besides the mount of the Hindu god Shiva (fig.), the bull is also worshipped as a symbol of male power and virility, an attribute also symbolized by the hump on the back of the Zebu (fig.).

 

The hump is said to represent a linga (fig.), i.e. an ancient Hindu fertility symbol in the form of a phallus and said to represent the creative power of Shiva. Around the neck is a colourful piece of synthetic fabric known as pah phrae mongkon, used in worship and for protection.
