Pan saai lohk literally means ‘world sand sculpting’ and refers to an international art form, that consists of making sculptures from sand. In Thailand, the sculptures usually represent characters and themes from Buddhism and the Ramakien, as well as from Thai folklore.

The sculpture above depicts the scene in which the Buddha performs the Twin Miracle or the Miracle of Double Appearances, known in Thai as yamok patihariya (ยมกปาฏิหาริย์) and in which the Buddha grew a mango tree and duplicated his body.

The sculpture of the crocodile corresponds to Chalawan from the story Kraithong (fig.). In Thailand, this art is practiced especially in Chachengsao, though sand sculptures are also on display at Bangkok's Buddhist Art Garden House, which is known in Thai as Ban Suan Phuttasin (fig.).
