Dyeing a seua mo hom. i.e. the gtraditional blue cotton farmer's shirt (fig.). The blue dye is obtained from a plant called krahm, known in Northern Thailand as hom, by soaking it in water. Before the cotton is immersed in order to absorbed the dye, this watery solution is mixed with chalk and left to soak for two days and nights.

 

Next, this is blend with a liquid gained from water mixed with ashes, a procedure that gives a reaction making the blue chalky substance suitable for submerging the cotton. After this, it is hung to dry in the sun.
