Cicadae (fig.) are Chinese symbols of eternal youth, happiness and longevity, and carved from jade, which in China is believed to have the power to bring good luck and protection, they are considered real charms.

 

For this reason, they are often found incorporated in Chinese art, as in this bunch of lychees (fig.), which themselves are Chinese symbols of power and profit.
