  Tham Pha Tai National Park

Tham Pha Tai is a cave in Lampang province (fig.), located in a national park of the same name, which can be translated as ‘Independent Cliff Cave’ or ‘Free Cliff Cave’.

 

Whereas the national park covers an area of about 1,214 km˛, the limestone cave has a depth of about 1,150 meters, of which about 405 meters can be visited.

Known in Thai as tham, caves are associated with legendary hermits, who are said to live in them. They are deemed sanctuaries and often feature shrines, statues of Buddha or of reusi (fig.), i.e. recluses.
