who was born on 1 January 1920
as the son of Prince
Phitayalongkorn
(fig.),
and a brother to Wiphawadi Ratchani (วิภาวดี รัชนี),
who after her marriage to Prince Piyarangsit Rangsit, became known
as
Wiphawadi Rangsit. He is
one of the longest-living royal personages in the Thai history and a
long and close friend of King
Bhumipon Adunyadet
(fig.),
who he befriended when still a prince during his brother King
Anantha Mahidon's
(fig.)
reign. He is an author and president of the royal projects of King
Rama IX. In
his youth, he studied in England and during WWII joined the
British Army. After the war, he returned to Thailand and worked as
an officer in the Border Patrol Police. Although in later life he has
lived mostly in
Chiang Mai
in
northern Thailand, his official residence is
Wang Pramuan in the
khwaeng
Silom,
i.e. his parental home in Bangkok.
