TRADITIONS & UTENSILS

  Thai Army lot

Thailand

Kong keun is the Thai term for registered men of pre-military age who have been listed for military service but are nor yet officially called up. At the age of twenty every Thai boy is summoned to come and draw a lot of which the colour determines if one is conscripted or let off: if the colour is red, one is drafted; if black, one is exempt. This photo shows the result notification for someone who drew black and got exempt.
