Tagundaing is the
Burmese term for an ornamented
victory column found within the grounds of Burmese Buddhist temples or
kyaung.
These columns are erected to symbolize the submission of local animistic
spirits called
nat
(fig.)
to the
dhamma.
The top of the column typically features a mythical
Hintha
or
Hamsa, while the base may be adorned with
representations of the
Satu Lokapala
(fig.)
or
Thagyamin
