The annual
Loi Krathong
(fig.)
is celebrated most exuberantly in northern Thailand,
especially in
Sukhothai,
where it takes the form of the Loi Krathong and Candle
Festival. During the week-long festivities, the central
zone of
Sukhothai
Historical Park (fig.)
becomes the heart of the celebrations, with the ancient
ruins serving as the backdrop for a spectacular
sound-and-light show recounting the history of this
early kingdom. For the occasion, the entrance is adorned
with a festive gateway, enhancing the event's vibrant
atmosphere.
