  Poh Khun Sri Intaratit Monument

The Poh Khun Sri Intaratit Monument in the amphur Nakhon Thai, in Phitsanulok Province. He was the first ruler (fig.) of the Kingdom of Sukhothai and reigned from 1238 to circa 1270 AD. He is also referred to as Phra Ruang (fig.) and is the father of King Ramkamhaeng (fig.). In 1238 AD, he liberated the Thai people of the yoke of the Khmer.

 

This prompted the Khmer King to sent an envoy to arrest him. According to legend, this emissary, called Khomdamdin, was able to travel underground very fast using magical powers. However, when he emerged to deliver the Khmer King's message, legend says that he was turned into stone by Phra Ruang.
