The construction of Prasat Hin Phimai started in the late 10th century under King Jayavarman V and was completed in the first half of the 11th century, during the rule of King Suriyavarman I.

Hence, the completion of this Khmer temple (fig.) predates the construction of Angkor Wat (fig.) in present-day Cambodia.
