‘Turban’. Name of a shawl-like piece of cloth, that is worn as a kind of headwear, manually wound around the top of the head of boys and men in India. When green in colour, which is considered the traditional colour of
Islam and related to he state of the inhabitants of paradise as described in the
Koran, it is customary worn by
Muslims in India, as well as in Pakistan, and is usually simply referred to as green turban. Also spelled pagari and, in Punjabi, referred to as paga. See also dastar and
