Kuan U was a fearsome fighter, yet famous for his virtue and loyalty, a brave and faithful warrior in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Depicted to his left is Chou Tsang (fig.), his aide-de-camp and weapon bearer, and to his right is Kuan Ping (fig.), his son. In iconography, Kuan Ping's face is traditionally painted whitish or pink, that of Chou Tsang black or dark brown.
