Painting at the Beijing Summer Palace (fig.), depicting a scene from Journey to the West in which the pilgrims cross a very wide river on the back of a giant turtle.

The turtle came to their help as gratitude for them subduing a fish demon that lived in the river. On its carapace are, from left to right, Sun Wukong the Monkey King (fig.), Sha Wujing or Friar Sandy (fig.), the monk Xuanzang or Tripitaka (fig.), and Zhu Bajie or Pigsy (fig.), while Xuanzang's dragon-horse (fig.) is tucked in somewhere below, in between Monkey King and Friar Sandy.
