One Burmese hairstyle worn by women of the past and occasionally still observed today during traditional festivals or at weddings, consists of an elongated hair tuft that is tied together with a ribbon and held together at the base with a strap, which may be decorative, as seen here, in the form of a lotus-shaped coronet, reminiscent of the dbu rgyan worn by certain Chinese  monks (fig.).
