In a field along the side of the road
near
Wat Tako in
Ayutthaya (fig.),
lies this abandoned sculpture of a giant
tiger, regarded in Asia as
the king of the animals and the third animal of the
Chinese zodiac (fig.).
Here, the tiger is adorned
with flame-like pattern known as
kranok
(fig.)
motifs, and with a pronounced collar around the neck that gives it a
form that can at first be mistaken for a
lion.
