  Notre Dame

Vietnam

The Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica (fig.) in the centre of Saigon, i.e. Ho Chi Minh City. The edifice is 58 meters tall and was completed in 1880 AD, by and for French-Indochinese colonialists. In front of this Catholic church building is a statue of Our Lady, known in French as Notre Dame, i.e. the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ after whom this cathedral is named.

This landmark cathedral is located on an island in the middle of a wide plaza and doubles as a roundabout for circulating city traffic.
