A
zebra shrine in
Nonthaburi.
This type of shrine, adorned with numerous zebra statues, reflect local
beliefs and cultural practices.
The statues are thought to
symbolize safety, as their black-and-white stripes resemble pedestrian
crossings, which in Thai are called thaang mah laai (·Ò§ÁéÒÅÒÂ), i.e. ‘zebra
paths’.
