NATURE & GASTRONOMY

  duang nguang

Thailand

This quaint, minuscule creature is a weevil, a tiny species of beetle known in Thai as duang nguang, literally ‘trunk beetle’, due to the rostrum, its trunk-like muzzle.

It also has the typical geniculate, i.e. L-shaped, antennae with small clubs. This about 50 millimeter small species, was found in Kanchanaburi. It is similar to and reminiscent of a species known as Elephant Weevil.
