  pomjuk

Thailand

A child with a pomjuk. Growing a tuft of hair rests on a centuries old belief that should prevent children from becoming chronically ill. The pomjuk is eventually shaved off at the age of 11 or 13 during a traditional tonsure ceremony called Pittikohnjuk.
