The tapering top part of a chedi is known as plong shanai. At its base, it usually has the form of a stack of rings that decrease in size towards the top, though the last part towards the peak is generally smooth, yet still tapering (fig.). The part with pillars resembling the style of a balcony is called chan atsadong (fig.).
