pla thong
In Thai, goldfish are called pla thong or alternatively pla ngun pla thong, i.e. ‘silver fish-gold fish’, due that some are gold mixed silver.
And, whereas for the Chinese goldfish are believed to be auspicious creatures that herald fortune, for Thais the latter term is reminiscent to the silver and gold trees, that they offer to the king, and also refers to money and wealth in general.
