phaniad (elephant kraal)
A phaniad, i.e. an elephant kraal, like this one in Ayutthaya, was in the past used to round-up and catch wild elephants.
It consists of a huge fence of wooden -usually teak- logs planted in the ground at an angle to keep the elephants in.
