Buddha
is depicted preaching to the
yak
Alavaka, in consequence
subduing this man-eating ogre, who lived in a
banyan
tree and
saving prince Hatthaka, the son of the king who ruled over the kingdom of Alavi,
from being eaten. The prince consequently became a disciple of the Buddha and is
later described as one of his foremost lay male adherents.
