maeng tab tao

A plate with fried Water Scavenger Beetles (fig.), in Thai known as maeng tab tao or malaeng niang. They are black in colour, almond-shaped, with a strongly keeled abdomen, and are eaten as a snack in some parts of Thailand, especially in Isaan.
