These tiny bugs, that look like seeds moving about on the surface
of a still water in
Lumbini, are actually
Water Scavenger Beetles, i.e.
a kind of beetle in the family Hydrophilidae.
A
somewhat
larger
beetle
of
the
same
family,
known
in
Thai
as
maeng tab tao
or malaeng niang (fig.),
is eaten as a snack in some parts of Thailand,
especially in
Isaan.
