  khanom sai sai

Thailand

Khanom sai sai, the largest of the three wrappers shown here, i.e. the one closed with a bamboo pin, is a traditional Thai dessert made from a filling of sweetened coconut mixed with palm sugar, covered with a soft, slightly chewy outer layer made of rice flour and coconut milk. The dessert is then wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed. The other, pyramid-shaped and smallest desert on the left is khanom thian, whilst the double wrapper on the right, tied together with bamboo strips, is called khao tom mat.
