Khai mot daeng, or ‘red ant eggs’, are actually the larvae of Weaver Ants, a genus of ants with the Latin-scientific designation Oecophylla smaragdina and also commonly known as the Green Ant.

 

These larvae were freshly collected from a treetop (fig.). Note the red ants still crawling over the eggs.
