Unlike adults, Puff-faced Water Snake juveniles have a faded brown body and tail, and the dorsal black-edged bands are much paler.

The colour of those may vary from yellowish white to slightly orange-red, whilst their belly is also somewhat paler then in adults.

In addition, they may have two beige pale to white patches on the back of the head.
