Plantain bananas on a fresh market in Can Tho, southern Vietnam, where they are called chuoi mo qua (chuối mỏ quạ), i.e. ‘raven beak bananas’. In Thailand, plantains are officially known as gluay glaay, though they are usually nicknamed with titles such as gluay nga chang, i.e. ‘elephant tusk bananas’, whereas in Malay-Indonesian they are referred to as pisang tanduk, which translates as horn bananas’. They are typically sliced and fried to make banana chips.
