The pairs of hardwood sticks on each side of this elaborately decorated jakae (fig.) are known as krab, i.e. hand-held pieces of wood used as a rhythm instrument. There are two types: the one consists of a pair of straight, unattached, wooden blocks and is called krab sephaa; the other consists of wooden slats, sometimes with -or made of- brass and with rounded ends, that are tied together at one end, and which is known by the name krab phuang.
