Fish are called pla in Thai and are used to identify the twenty-seventh letter of the alphabet. In Chinese, fish are symbols of abundance and good luck, and in Christianity, a symbol of Jesus Christ, as well as a metaphor of the righteous and righteousness. This school of fish near Mae Hong Son's Fish Cave (fig.) are known as Brook Carp.
