In the Thai boy's game
ying peun gahn gluay, a toy rifle is made by stripping
a banana leaf from the leafy part, retaining only the thick stalk, in which
a number of notches are slit (fig.).
The
outer parts of those are then bent upright to an angle of 90 degrees.
By swiping ones hand quickly and powerful along these
erect parts they fold forward and create a clapping
sound akin to that of a weapon being fired (fig.).
