Portraits of
Princess
Maha
Chakri
Sirindhorn,
who is a fervent stamp collector and the president of the
Philatelists Association of
Thailand:
1. In the first picture, made at the Chitrada post office in
1991, the Princess poses next to a cylindrical postbox, a
model introduced in 1911 and the second
type
since the establishment of
the nation's postal services, and that
bears
the logo of the
Post and Telegraph Department, i.e. a
Garuda
over a post horn (fig.);
2. In the second picture, taken at the 125th Anniversary of
Thai Postal Services Exhibition in 2008, the Princess is
standing next to the very
first type of a letter
posting box ever used in Thailand, i.e. between 1883 and
1911, at the onset of the nation's postal services, when the
country was still named
Siam.
This model is over 130 years old and in Victorian style. In
the top left corner
is the
Princess'
royal cypher, which consists of
her
initials
ส (s) and ธ (t)
surmounted by a
chadah-style
crown. |
