Pya Tha Gyi Phaya (ပြာသာဒ်ကြီးဘုရား)

Burmese. ‘Great Tha Ash [Relic] Pagoda. Name of a double gu or double cave-type brick monastery in Bagan (fig.), built in the 13th Century AD in the reign of King Kyaswa (fig.), who ruled the Pagan Empire from 1235 to 1251 AD. The temple is also referred to as Pya Thet Gyi and Pya Tha Da. The architectural design of this monastery has Indian influences and features broad corridors, a ordination hall and expanded vaults that intersect with the corridors, an exceptional building technique found only in this monastery of the late Pagan Period.
