pah sompak (ผ้าสมปัก)
Thai name for a kind of
royal
sarong-like
garment, similar to the
traditional
pah nung, but
of a high quality material, sometimes compared or explained as a
brocade-like
fabric. These
royal clothes were given by the king or another high-ranking member
of the royal family to the nobles according to their position. They
were used as a uniform up to the reign of
King
Rama V and
used
only during a royal audience
or in royal ceremonies, akin to the white ceremonial jackets used
today. There are many different types but all are woven with silk
and in the middle of the fabric have various colours and
embroidery-like patterns.
