Reuan Yod Borom Mangkalanusonih (เรือนยอดบรมมังคลานุสรณีย์)
Thai. ‘Supreme Auspicious
Pinnacled Edifice Monument’. Name of a
sala-like
edifice on the premises of the
Ananta Samahkom Hall
(fig.)
in
Bangkok's
Dusit
district, built in
honour of King
Bhumipon Adunyadet
(fig.),
the ninth King of the
Chakri
Dynasty.
It takes the form of a gilded pavilion and is built on a marble platform
within the compound of the
Throne Hall,
situated in the garden to the east
of it.
The roof has
nine
peaks, the highest number ever on such a structure in the history of Thai
architecture. Besides being an auspicious number, the nine
spikes
symbolize
the reign of King
Rama IX.
This is in line with
Phra Thihnang Siwalai Maha Prasat (fig.),
located within
the
Grand Palace,
which was built for
King
Rama V
and has five peaks on its roof. An inscription at the monument has King
Bhumiphon's
signature, his name and initials, as well as the names of his close
relatives, i.e. his brother, King
Anantha Mahidon
(fig.);
Prince
Mahidol Adulyadej,
the Prince the
Father
(fig.);
Princess
Sri Nagarindra,
the Princess Mother (fig.);
his wife, Queen
Sirikit (fig.);
his son, then Crown Prince and later King
Maha
Vajiralongkorn
(fig.);
his daughter,
Princess
Sirinthon (fig.);
his daughter,
Princess
Chulaphorn Walailak
(fig.);
his sister
Galyani Watthana
(fig.);
and his eldest child and first daughter,
Princess
Ubon Rattana Rachaganya
(fig.).
Its construction took about four years, starting in 2011 AD, it was
completed in 2016 AD.
