Reuan Yod Borom Mangkalanusonih (เรือนยอดบรมมังคลานุสรณีย์)

Thai. ‘Supreme Auspicious Pinnacled Edifice Monument’. Name of a sala-like edifice on the premises of the Ananta Samahkom Hall (fig.) in Bangkok's Dusit district, built in honour of King Bhumipon Adunyadet (fig.), the ninth King of the Chakri Dynasty. It takes the form of a gilded pavilion and is built on a marble platform within the compound of the Throne Hall, situated in the garden to the east of it. The roof has nine peaks, the highest number ever on such a structure in the history of Thai architecture. Besides being an auspicious number, the nine spikes symbolize the reign of King Rama IX. This is in line with Phra Thihnang Siwalai Maha Prasat (fig.), located within the Grand Palace, which was built for King Rama V and has five peaks on its roof. An inscription at the monument has King Bhumiphon's signature, his name and initials, as well as the names of his close relatives, i.e. his brother, King Anantha Mahidon (fig.); Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, the Prince the Father (fig.); Princess Sri Nagarindra, the Princess Mother (fig.); his wife, Queen Sirikit (fig.); his son, then Crown Prince and later King Maha Vajiralongkorn (fig.); his daughter, Princess Sirinthon (fig.); his daughter, Princess Chulaphorn Walailak (fig.); his sister Galyani Watthana (fig.); and his eldest child and first daughter, Princess Ubon Rattana Rachaganya (fig.). Its construction took about four years, starting in 2011 AD, it was completed in 2016 AD. See also reuan, Borom, as well as TRAVEL PICTURE and MAP.
