Nakhon Sri Borirak (นครศรีบริรักษ์)
Thai. The later title
of Phia Meuang Pan (พญาเมืองแป้น), also known as Chao Meuang
Phaen (เจ้าเมืองแป้น) and sometimes referred to as Thao Phia
Meuang Pan (ท้าวพญาเมืองแป้น), Chao Phia Meuang Pan (เจ้าพญาเมืองแป้น),
or Phraya Meuang Pan (พระยาเมืองแป้น). His original name was
Thao Phan (ท้าวพัน) or Thao Sak (ท้าวศักดิ์). As an official of
Suvarnabhumi,
he became the progenitor of the Noen Phra (เนินพระ) family,
which besides Nakhon Sri Borirak (นครศรีบริรักษ์) also includes
distinguished lineages such as Sunthon Phithak (สุนทรพิทักษ์),
Phan Phah (พันภา), and Setthaphumrin (เศรษฐาภูมินทร์). As the
first governor and founder of
Khon Kaen,
Nakhon Sri Borirak played a pivotal role in the establishment of
the city. Before assuming this position, he served as an
official in Thurakom─Hongsa (เมืองเธอขม─หงสา) and resided in the
Lan Xang
Kingdom of
Vientiane. He had previously been Kwan
Ban (head of the village) in Chi-lon of
Suwannaphum
and lord of Ban Don Phayom Meuang Phia (บ้านดอนพะยอมเมืองพญา).
Nakhon Sri Borirak was also the father of Chao Nang Kham Waen (เจ้านางคำแหวน),
also known as Chao Chom Waen (เจ้าจอมแหวน), who became the first
royal consort of King
