Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy

Name of the premier service academy of the Royal Thai Army, established on 5 August 1887 (fig.) by King Rama V (fig.) and initially housed in the back of the Saranrom Palace (fig.) in Bangkok, where today the Royal Thai Survey Department (fig.) is located, CRMA moved to Nakhon Nayok Province in 1986 (fig.). Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy is an educational institution that focuses on creating cadets with academic knowledge, military skills, and leadership skills to be ready for work after graduation and be able to perform as professional commissioned officers of the Royal Thai Army. The academy offers rigorous military and academic training, with cadets graduating as second lieutenants after five years. The academy admits only male applicants and provides scholarships for outstanding cadets to study abroad. CRMA opens applications for male students who have completed mathayom 4, aged no less than 16 and no more than 18 years. Applications are accepted from January to March of each year. The examinations are divided into two rounds: the first round is an academic examination in mathematics, science, social studies, religion and culture, Thai language, and English. Once students pass the academic examinations, the second round is conducted, which consists of a physical examination, an interview, and a physical education examination. If applicants pass both rounds, they will be selected to study as a military cadet in the Royal Thai Army for two years at the Military Preparatory School. They will then continue their studies at CRMA under the bachelor's degree program for five years before graduating as commissioned officers in the Royal Thai Army. Cadet life follows a strict daily schedule, with additional specialized military training each year. CRMA has produced many of Thailand’s military leaders, including prime ministers.
