  Seven Gods of Fortune

Of the Seven Gods of Fortune worshipped in Japan, six were actually imported from China and derive from the Eight Immortals (fig.), yet Ebisu (fig.) –who is here depicted holding down a red Sea Bream– is the only one of the group to originate from Japan. One the lower left is Daikoku (fig.), the Japanese God of Wealth, who is associated with Mahakala (fig.).
