  Puxian (Samantabhadra)

 

Thailand

A life-sized marble statue of Puxian, the bodhisattva of truth in Mahayana Buddhism, who is also known by the Sanskrit name Samantabhadra and is one of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (fig.). In art, he is usually portrayed riding an elephant, and often has feminine characteristics (fig.), reminiscent of depictions of Kuan Yin (fig.).
